Tutorial - How to show Zip codes on a Google Map

Ever wish you could easily see zip code boundaries on a Google map?

I wanted to see the actual boundaries on a map so I could plan marketing efforts. My search led me to an awesome tool that's easy to use.

1) Go to http://maps.huge.info/zip.htm


 

2) Enter a zip code in the "Key Zip" box

 

3) Click the "Find Zipcode" button

 

4) Voilà!

 

Now that's EASY!

Google tool to show different neighborhoods in your farm

I found a great way to show prospects your knowledge of the areas you sell in. Use the Google Maps "My Maps" feature to outline different neighborhoods.

You can click on a highlighted area and see specifics about that particular neighborhood. I'm not quite done with this yet but you can add a link to the original builder, a link to a Facebook group (to let neighbors publish Garage Sales, etc.). This is way cool!

Try clicking on the golden triangle at the top of my map (the area on the map for Dakota Apartments). The fly-out comes up with some information on the community as well as a link for their website.

 


View Real Estate / Communities in French Valley, CA (Winchester, CA) in a larger map

It's easy to do:

  • Log into your Google account
  • Click on "My Maps"
  • Click on "Create New Map"
  • Click on the shape drawing drop down and select "Draw A Shape"
  • Draw a polygon around the neighborhood
  • Fill in the details (need to select "Rich Text" in order to add links)

Once your map is done, use the "Link" button in the upper right to get the code to paste in your blog or on your page and tada . . . you're done.
